Styles ; A-Line or Princess CutWhat's the difference between our standard a-line dresses & shirts, and the princess seam or princess cut dresses & shirts?
(see illustrations below)
A-LINE STYLE:
The body of the a-line dress is two pieces, one front & one back, and is the shape of the letter "A" - so the smallest part is at the top, then it flares out to the bottom. It usually gets appx 10" bigger at the hip (or halfway down the dress), then another 10"-12" at the bottom sweep. This is a favorite for our apple ladies, as it doesn't hug the tummy or mid-section!
PRINCESS STYLE: The body of the princess cut or princess seam dress is 6 pieces, 3 in the front, and 3 in the back, and is just a tiny bit fitted at the top. It also starts small at the top, then tapers in just an inch or two at the waist, then flares way out at the hip (appx 12"-16"), then another 14"-18" at the bottom sweep. This is a favorite for our pear ladies, as it's a lot roomier in the hip area, but snug at the top.
(note: measurements are approximate, they may vary depending on the size of the dress, and the fabric type)
